Drawings 2009/10

MA show 2009 : 'Seven Weeks'

Intro

‘In a society of spectacle, where people are constantly subjected to simulacra, lies and illusions, drawing has become a medium of resistance’. Catherine de Zegher

Neil explores depictions of anxiety, exhaustion and the beauty of every day living. Working with still life and the human form, he explores the boundaries between figuration and abstraction. The work focuses on the experiences of individuals in everyday domestic life, where internal pressures are created, but also integrity and great beauty and reward. The immediacy of drawing, the language of marks and physical relationship between artist and viewer, underpin his practice.
